It was synonymized subjectively with Elasmotheriinae by Hay (1902).
It was assigned to Rhinocerotida by Codrea (1992); and to Rhinocerotidae by Ginsburg and Heissig (1989), Prothero and Schoch (1989), Cerdeno (1992), Prothero (1998), Antoine et al. (2000), Tong (2001), Kaya and Heissig (2001), Sach and Heizmann (2001), Prothero (2005), Deng (2005), Deng and Qi (2009), Gustafson (2012), Athanassiou et al. (2014) and Lu et al. (2016).
