Taxonomy
Gegania was named by Jeffreys (1884) [Sepkoski's age data: K Coni R]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Epitoniidae by Gardner (1947); to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Mathildidae by Harris and Palmer (1947), Sohl (1964), Ladd (1972), Dockery (1993) and Wienrich and Janssen (2007).
