Pseudotaria muramotoi
Taxonomy
Pseudotaria muramotoi was named by Kohno (2006) [CBM = Natural History Museum and Institute, Chiba, Japan]. Its type specimen is CBM-PV 382, a partial skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Ichibangawa River, which is in a Tortonian marine sandstone in the Ichibangawa Formation of Japan. It is the type species of Pseudotaria.

Distinguished from other later diverging odobenids (Imagotaria, Pontolis, dusignathines, and odobenines) by retention of the following primitive characters: deep glenoid fossa; narrow basioccipital; small mastoid process; two distinct roots on premolars (except P1). |
