Taxonomy
Hyperoodon pusillus was named by Pilleri (1987). It is not extant. Its type specimen is IGF 1540 V. Its type locality is Volterra, which is in a Piacenzian coastal claystone/sandstone in Italy.
It was recombined as Kogia pusilla by Bianucci (1997), Bianucci et al. (1998), Kazár (2002), Kazár (2002), Cioppi (2014) and Velez-Juarbe et al. (2015).
