Tomarctus hippophaga

Taxonomy
Tephrocyon hippophagus was named by Matthew and Cook (1909). Its type specimen is AMNH 13836, a mandible, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Trojan Quarry, which is in a Barstovian terrestrial horizon in the Olcott Formation of Nebraska.

It was synonymized subjectively with Tomarctus brevirostris by Matthew (1924), VanderHoof and Gregory (1940) and Olsen (1956); it was recombined as Tomarctus hippophaga by Storer (1975), Skinner et al. (1977), Wang et al. (1999) and Wang et al. (2008).
