Taxonomy
Pliauchenia humphreysiana was named by Cope (1875) [genotype, see Patton 1969a and Honey et al. 1998]. It is the type species of Pliauchenia.
It was corrected as Pliauchenia humphresiana by Matthew (1901); it was synonymized subjectively with Tanupolama vera by Hibbard (1963); it was synonymized subjectively with Hemiauchenia vera by Webb (1974) and Breyer (1977); it was considered a nomen dubium by Honey et al. (1998).
