Taxonomy
Hypertragulus chadronensis was named by Cook (1934). Its type specimen is No. HC501, a mandible (part of a right lower jaw), and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Chadronia Pocket, which is in a Chadronian terrestrial siltstone in the Chadron Formation of Nebraska.
