Taxonomy
Chelonia olivacea was named by Eschscholtz (1829). It is extant. It is the type species of Lepidochelys.

It was recombined as Lepidochelys olivacea by Mrososky and Pritchard (1971), van Dijk et al. (2014) and Rhodin et al. (2017).
