Glarichelys was named by Zangerl (1958) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo T Ol]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Eocheloniinae by Weems (1988); to Cheloniidae by Mlynarski (1959), Mlynarski (1984) and Carroll (1988); to Rupelchelyini by Karl and Tichy (1999); to Chelonia by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cheloniini by Karl (2007).
