Cynocercus incisus
Taxonomy
Cynocercus incisus was named by Cope (1872). Its type specimen is AMNH 1583, a set of postcrania (two caudal vertebrae, metapodial), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Butte Creek, which is in a Coniacian/Santonian carbonate chalk in the Niobrara Formation of Kansas. It is the type species of Cynocercus.
It was corrected as Cynocercus incisivus by Hay (1905); it was considered a nomen dubium by Osborn (1930); it was misspelled as Cynocercus incisivus by Zangerl (1953).
