Tejra Quarry, Medenine, Unit 2 (Triassic of Tunisia)

Where: Tunisia (33.4° N, 10.4° E: paleocoordinates 3.0° S, 15.2° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Kirchaou Formation, Fassanian (242.0 - 235.0 Ma)

• Compared to the local Kirchaou Formation (Soussi et al. 2017)

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marginal marine; claystone and sandstone

• "The second unit (Unit 2) is about 40 m thick. It is clayey dominated but contains numerous sandstone interbeds of different thickness containing well sorted and rounded quartz grains. It starts with two thick layers of medium size grained reddish sandstone interbedded by 2 m thick reddish claystone particularly rich with marine bivalves, microconchids, gastropods and lingulids. All collected vertebrate remains (fish and temnospondyl amphibian) came from this part of the section." (Soussi et al. 2017)

Size class: macrofossils

Collection methods: Repository: Institute of Paleobiology of Polish Academy of Sciences (ZPAL), V.46
