Taxonomy
Hipposaurus boonstrai was named by Haughton (1929). Its type specimen is SAM-PK-8950, a skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Klein Koedoeskop, Beaufort West, which is in a Capitanian terrestrial siliciclastic in South Africa.
