Taxonomy
Cteniogenyidae was named by Seiffert (1975) [Listed as "Seiffert 1970" but this is a reference to an unpublished dissertation.]. Its type is Cteniogenys.

It was corrected as Cteniogenidae by Gao and Fox (1998); it was misspelled as Cteniogenidae by Foster and Trujillo (2000).

It was assigned to Eolacertilia by Seiffert (1975); and to Choristodera by Gao and Fox (1998) and Foster and Trujillo (2000).
