Taxonomy
Venericardia alticostata whitei was named by Gardner (1823) [DISTRIBUTION: Paleocene; Texas]. Its type specimen is USNM 352269, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Venericardia (Baluchicardia) whitei by Heaslip (1968).
