Phasianella was named by Lamarck (1804) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-m R Sepkoski's reference number: 557]. It is extant. Its type is Buccinum australe. It is the type genus of Phasianellinae.
It was assigned to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Phasianellinae by Wilson (1993) and Bouchet et al. (2005); and to Phasianellidae by Ladd (1966) and Harzhauser et al. (2009).
