Paraturbo was named by Cossmann (1907) [Sepkoski's age data: J Sine K Ceno Sepkoski's reference number: 615,1066]. It is the type genus of Paraturbinidae.
It was assigned to Liotiidae by Weisbord (1962); to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Paraturbinidae by Bouchet et al. (2005).
