Metriomphalus was named by Cossmann (1916) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Nori K Maes Sepkoski's reference number: 914,1066].

It was assigned to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Nododelphinulidae by Kase (1984) and Gründel (2007).
