Argonauta absyrtus was named by Martill and Barker (2006) [TYPE LOCALITY: Southern Cyprus, Pakhna Fm (Serravallian).]. Its type specimen is BMNH C 93790, a shell (near complete shell as part and counterpart), and it is a compression fossil.
