Taxonomy
Pecten venosum was named by Hutton (1873) [TYPE LOCALITY: Oamaru, Canterbury, South Island, New Zeland (Runangan = Priabonian). TYPE REPOSITORY: GSNZ (now GNS Science, Lower Hutt, New Zealand).].

It was recombined as Chlamys venosa by Gage (1957); it was recombined as Serripecten venosus by Fleming (1966) and Beu et al. (1990).
