Pecten septenarius was named by Say (1824) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Pliocene; Atlantic Coastal Plain.]. It is not a trace fossil.
It was recombined as Pecten (Lyropecten) jeffersonius septenarius by Dall (1898); it was recombined as Pecten (Chlamys) jeffersonius septenarius by Glenn (1904) and Mansfield (1936); it was recombined as Chlamys (Lyropecten) jeffersonia septenaria by Gardner (1943); it was recombined as Chesapecten septenarius by Ward and Blackwelder (1975); it was recombined as Chesapecten jeffersonius septenarius by Gibson (1987).
