Murchisonia artemesia was named by Billings (1865). It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Goniospira artemesia by Donald (1902); it was recombined as Eroicaspira artemesia by Wagner (1999); it was recombined as Hormotoma artemesia by Butts (1926), Fortey and Peel (1990), Desbiens et al. (1996) and Wagner (2023).
