Seraphsidae was named by Gray (1853) [m. kosnik taxon no: 9985]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Strombacea by Squires (1984) and Squires (1987); to Mesogastropoda by Squires (1988); and to Stromboidea by Ponder and Warén (1988), Bouchet et al. (2005), Harzhauser (2007), Bouchet et al. (2017) and Maxwell et al. (2018).
