Ammonites goliathus was named by d'Orbigny (1849). It is not extant. Its type specimen is MNHN.F.R04152.
It was recombined as Goliathiceras (Goliathites) goliathus by Arkell (1946); it was recombined as Cardioceras goliathus by Enay et al. (1994).
