Taxonomy
Steneofiber pansus was named by Cope (1874).

It was recombined as Castor pansus by Cope (1881); it was synonymized subjectively with Eucastor tortus by Stout in Skinner and Taylor (1967) and Tedford and Barghoorn (1993); it was recombined as Eucastor pansus by Voorhies (1990); it was recombined as Monosaulax pansus by Stirton (1935), Storer (1975), Evander (1999), Korth (1999) and Korth (2008).
