Palaeocarpilius anodon was named by Bittner (1875).
It was synonymized subjectively with Palaeocarpilius simplex by Beschin et al. (2007) and Schweitzer et al. (2010); it was recombined as Liopsalis anodon by Feldmann et al. (2011) and Ferratges et al. (2020).
