Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
S. J. Godfrey and O. Lambert 2023Robust delphinidan characterized by the following unique combination of characters: massive, transversely and dorsoventrally thick premaxillae at mid-length of rostrum; no significant constriction of the lateral margins of premaxillae in rostrum base; slightly transversely concave premaxillary sac fossae; well-developed premaxillary crest lateral to the posterior margin of the bony nares, with a prominent dorsolateral corner; reduced contact between pre- maxilla and nasal along anterolateral corner of the latter; minimum width of vertex greater than width of bony nares; nasal wider than long; lateral margins of nasals diverging posterolaterally; dorsal surface of nasal sloping markedly anteroventrally; frontal wider than nasal on vertex and reaching a slightly higher level; nuchal crest barely anteriorly projected, with supraoccipital shield only a little exposed in dorsal view; occipital shield inflated, being dorsoventrally convex; temporal crests converging ventromedially in posterior view; large maxillary alveoli, up to 17 mm in transverse diameter; W-shaped palatine-maxilla sutures with posteromedial exposure of maxillae between apices of palatines; pterygoid sinus fossa reaching the level of the antorbital notch; and fossa for the postorbital lobe of the pterygoid sinus being very deep and posteriorly defined by a high crest.
