Taxonomy
Cosmomya egregia was named by Holdhaus (1913). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Northwest Kimplong, southwest Niti Pass, which is in a Lopingian marine shale in the Productus Shale Formation of India. It is the type species of Cosmomya, Cosmomya (Cosmomya).
It was recombined as Cosmomya (Cosmomya) egregaria by Dickins and Shah (1965).
