Taxonomy
Stereolepis marginis was named by Casier (1952). Its type specimen is IRSNB R.G.1.341 (I.G.18.079, a partial skeleton (Anterior part of fish), and it is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Osorioichthys.
It was recombined as Osorioichthys marginis by Casier (1954), Taverne (1997) and Cloutier and Arratia (2004).
