Taxonomy
Melanella (Melanella) necropolitana was named by Bartsch (1917). It is extant. Its type locality is Deadman Island area - Lower San Pedro Series (1900s-1950s) [San Pedro Sand], which is in a Pleistocene coastal sandstone in the San Pedro Sand Formation of California.
It was recombined as Balcis necropolitana by Hendy (2021).
