Taxonomy
Trachyrincus aulax was named by Schwarzhans (2019). Its type specimen is CD211, an otolith, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Mangapari Stream and Bells Creek, which is in a Tongaporutuan marine mudstone in the Bells Creek Mudstone Formation of New Zealand.
