Taxonomy
Promacrauchenia cristata was named by Rovereto (1914). Its type specimen is MACN-PV 8463, a partial skull (fragmentary skull and associated dentaries), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Huayquerías de Biluco, which is in a Miocene/Pliocene terrestrial sandstone in Argentina. It is the type species of Huayqueriana.
It was recombined as Huayqueriana cristata by Riggs and Patterson (1939) and Forasiepi et al. (2016).
