Taxonomy
Neotrapezium californicum was named by Squires (1999). Its type specimen is LACMIP 12459 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is CSUN 1450 - Matilija Hot Springs [Matilija Sandstone], which is in a Lutetian coastal mudstone/sandstone in the Matilija Formation of California.
