Hepaticites was named by Walton (1925). It is not extant. Its type is Hepaticites kidstoni.

It was assigned to Marchantiophyta by Andrews (1970); and to Hepaticae by Lakhanpal et al. (1976) and Chandra and Tewari (1991).
