Taxonomy
Carcharias lomitae was named by Jordan and Hanibal (1923). Its type specimen is LSJU 974, a tooth, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Lomita Quarry [Lomita Marl], which is in a Pleistocene marine marl in the Lomita Marl Formation of California.
