Taxonomy
Culicoides (Groganomyia) ellenbergeri was named by Szadziewski and Dominiak (2019). Its type specimen is MAI 5666, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Burmese amber (MAI Gdansk coll), which is in a Cenomanian terrestrial amber in Myanmar.

It was recombined as Culicoides ellenbergeri by Borkent and Dominiak (2020).
