Taxonomy
Xantusia downsi was named by Norell (1989). It is not extant. Its type specimen is LACM 1114/123301 (right spleniodentary). Its type locality is Anza Borrego Desert State Park lizards, which is in a Blancan/Irvingtonian terrestrial horizon in the Palm Springs Formation of California.
