Taxonomy
Phosphorosaurus ortliebi was named by Dollo (1889). Its type specimen is IRScNB R34, a partial skull, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Halisaurus ortliebi by Lingham-Soliar (1991) and Lingham-Soliar (1996).
