Bainguis was named by Borsuk-Bialynicka (1984). It is not extant. Its type is Bainguis parvus.
It was assigned to Bainguidae by Borsuk-Bialynicka (1984) and Carroll (1988); and to Anguidae by Alifanov (1993), Gao and Hou (1996) and Alifanov (2000).
