Plexodictyon was named by Nestor (1966) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ldov-u S Prid Sepkoski's reference number: 903].

It was assigned to Actinodictyidae by Stearn et al. (1999); and to Stromatoporoidea by Sepkoski (2002).
