Taxonomy
Lima hamlini was named by Dall (1900). Its type specimen is USNM 495186, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is 3rd Street tunnel, which is in a Pliocene coastal shale in the Fernando Formation of California.
It was recombined as Lima (Acesta) hamlini by Woodring (1938); it was recombined as Acesta (Acesta) hamlini by Moore (1987).
