Ashleycetus planicapitis
Taxonomy
Ashleycetus planicapitis was named by Sanders and Geisler (2015). Its type specimen is ChM PV6003, a partial skull (Partial skull in two pieces: (1) poste- rior portion of skull with exoccipitals and basioccipital and (2) most of rostrum, orbits, and intertemporal region but ), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Covington Estates, which is in a Rupelian coastal horizon in the Ashley Formation of South Carolina. It is the type species of Ashleycetus.
