Taxonomy
Goniophora thula was named by Kriz et al. (2011). Its type specimen is JK 17 875, a valve, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is 10RB10, East of Hoonah Airport, which is in a Homerian/Gorstian carbonate siltstone/limestone in the Kennel Creek Formation of Alaska.

Kriz et al. 2011A Silurian Goniophora with strongly inequilateral, postero-ventrally elongated, lanceolate shells, with outer surface sculpture composed of numerous, irregularly spaced narrow growth bands and furrows and with dorsal (posterior) and ventral (anterior) parts separated by prominent S-shaped carina between the umbo and extended ventral extremity. Posterior slope is overhanging.
