Taxonomy
Silphites priscus was named by Fritsch (1882). It is considered to be a form taxon. It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Kounic, which is in a Cenomanian terrestrial shale in the Peruc-Korycany Formation of the Czech Republic.
It was recombined as Silphidium priscum by Handlirsch (1907).
