Taxonomy
Scrupocellaria was named by van Beneden (1845) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m-l R]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Scrupocellariidae.

It was assigned to Scrupocellariidae by Bassler (1953) and Pouyet (2000); to Cheilostomata by Sepkoski (2002); and to Candidae by Schmidt (2003), Berning (2006), Bock (2006) and Di Martino and Taylor (2014).
