Taxonomy
Lepidotus leedsi was named by Woodward (1895). Its type specimen is BMNH P.6837, a partial skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Peterborough area, Leeds Collection, which is in a Callovian offshore mudstone in the Oxford Clay Formation of the United Kingdom.
