Naticopsis aequistriata was named by Meek (1873). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Zone D. North Bank below highway arch, Scioto River, Dublin, which is in an Eifelian carbonate limestone/chert in the Columbus Limestone Formation of Ohio.
