Taxonomy
Hypoclinea tertiaria was named by Mayr (1868). Its type specimen is 3782/130, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber.

It was recombined as Dolichoderus tertiarius by Wheeler (1915), Dlussky (2002) and Bolton (2012).
