Tamiosoma was named by Conrad (1856) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 1036]. It is extant. Its type is Tamiosoma gregaria.

It was reranked as Balanus (Tamiosoma) by Woodring (1940).

It was assigned to Balanus by Woodring (1940); to Concavinae by Zullo (1992); to Cirripedia by Sepkoski (2002); and to Balaninae by Chan et al. (2021).

Zullo 1992Alar sutural edge bifid, with blunt, denticulate outer edge and sharp, smooth inner edge; transverse septa of parietal tubes few and irregularly spaced or lacking (except T. regalis, with numerous, closely spaced transverse septa); exterior of scutum not nodose, broad tergal segment inflected, with concomitant shortening of tergal margin and truncation of basitergal angle; adductor and lateral depressor ridges of scutum nearly confluent; tergum beaked; tergal spur furrow closed; tergal spur long, placed a distance equal to or less than its own width from basiscutal angle.
