Xianshanosaurus was named by Lü et al. (2009).
It was assigned to Neosauropoda by Lü et al. (2009); to Lithostrotia by D'Emic (2012) and Averianov and Sues (2017); to Euhelopodidae by Gallina et al. (2021); and to Titanosauria by Mannion and Calvo (2011), Mannion et al. (2013), Poropat et al. (2016), Mannion et al. (2019) and Poropat et al. (2021).
