Taxonomy
Strabops was named by Beecher (1901) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Atda-l Cm Fran Sepkoski's reference number: 1006]. It is the type genus of Strabopidae.

It was assigned to Merostomata by Bengtson (1992) and Sepkoski (2002); and to Strabopidae by Størmer (1955) and Ortega-Hernandez et al. (2013).
